Closter – Temple Beth El Nursery School is pleased to announce a new name and location for the nursery school founded in 1958. The new name is KOL DOROT EARLY LEARNING CENTER, and the boutique style, community based National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accredited preschool is expected to open at 660 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell in September of 2019. Kol Dorot Early Learning Center will be housed within Kol Dorot: A Reform Jewish Community, which is the new merged congregation of Temple Beth El of Northern Valley in Closter and Temple Beth Or of Washington Township. The merging temples expect to receive preliminary approvals to proceed with construction plans for the new school at 660 Kinderkamack Road from the Oradell Zoning Board of Adjustment in March.
The name Kol Dorot translates to “Voice of Generations” and represents the intention to carry on the heritage of the two parent congregations as well as create an open and accepting community for future generations with a vision to meet the changing demographics in our area and needs of Reform Jews today. The Early Learning Center will realize this vision by continuing the tradition of Temple Beth El Nursery School’s excellent programs and child-centered curriculum in an inclusive and warm Jewish environment. Registration is now open for all programs at the new location in September 2019, at www.koldorot.org/elc.
At Kol Dorot Early Learning Center the focus is on educating the “whole child”—socially, emotionally, and academically. The children learn by doing, by exploring, and by questioning. Kol Dorot Early Learning Center Director Barbara Weinberg explains: “Our extremely qualified and nurturing teachers act as facilitators, helping to guide children into hands-on activities that prompt critical thinking and insightful conversations. In this setting, each child is valued as a learner, a teacher, a classmate, and a friend.”
Kol Dorot Early Learning Center welcomes children of all faiths and backgrounds, while gently infusing Jewish values and traditions into each classroom through Shabbat celebrations, holidays, cooking, and song. Music and nature programs are an essential part of the core programs along with in-school and after-school enrichment opportunities. In addition to the core programs for two-, three-, and four-year olds, the Center will also offer an extended day option available from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Co-President of Temple Beth El Angela Schuster said: “Since 1958, the nursery school has attracted young families to the community, sustaining congregational life as an engine for family, youth, and Jewish celebrations. I am thrilled that the beautiful school that nourished my two sons fifteen years ago will continue as Kol Dorot Early Learning Center, welcoming new families to our community.”
